Broken Promises to Hospitality Workers Says Robinson of Premier

Turks and Caicos, June 3, 2017 – Providenciales – Following the House of Assembly session on Wednesday, PNP Chairman, Royal Robinson says that absolutely no movement has taken place to ensure that the hotel workers get their 100% Service Charge that was promised to them by the Premier, Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson.

Mr. Robinson said that the Premier promised, at the close of business, that she would at the next sitting of the House on June 13, 2017, move the Bill up before government business on the agenda so that the workers could get their rewards.

The government has said that they are committed to getting the service charge in the pockets of workers across the country. The Ministry of Finance has been conducting surveys of hotel workers to ensure that the Government gets the law right. The survey can be accessed online at Chairman of the PDM, Doug Parnell stated that “Our party is committed to the workers of this country and will fulfill our campaign promise of delivering 100 percent of the service charge to them, but we must get it right and that is why we are calling on all in the tourism industry to participate in the survey being conducted”.

Despite this, Royal Robinson urged the hotel workers to go to the town hall meeting on June 6 in Providenciales and voice their concerns about the Premier’s unfulfilled promises. The appointed Opposition member claimed that the Premier as well as the Minister of Tourism, Ralph Higgs boasted of fulfilling the promise of the 100% Service Charge and workers should ensure that they live up to it.

“It is therefore up to you, the hotel worker, to get on the Premier’s Facebook page, her twitter account as well as Instagram, so that she can be made fully aware that you want your money”, he said.
