Minister attends DDME Earthquake Week Opening; National Plan session this week
Providenciales, TCI, January 10, 2017 – Resources are sorely lacking when it comes to the Turks and Caicos coping adequately with disaster emergencies and Director of the Government Agency responsible for planning, coordination and execution, Dr Virginia Clerveaux said she saw the attendance of the Minister Hon Delroy Williams at the opening of Earthquake Awareness Week at Rock of Jesus Ministries on Sunday as encouraging.
“He was there to provide support and renew his commitment to ensuring that disaster management is a priority in the Turks and Caicos Islands. So we’re happy that he’s leading by example, and perhaps through his attendance at these events it might encourage the general public to take the message from DDME, the warnings, the material a bit more seriously.”
DCH – Drop, Cover and Hold is what we ought to do in an earthquake but it is not all that would need to be done and this Thursday there will be a high level table top session with stakeholders in a move to draft a national policy on how the Turks and Caicos would handle an earthquake and its aftermath.
The Director of the DDME in a media interview on Monday explained once the proper vetting and protocols are followed, Cabinet will decided if and when the nation adopts the plan.
“The idea is we don’t want persons to be responding to an earthquake and have no idea what the National Earthquake Plan says. So that is why it’s important that they are involved in the drafting, the reviewing and testing of the plan. Once we have completed that, we will draft a policy paper, we’ll send it to Cabinet for them to endorse the plan, and it will become an official earthquake contingency plan for the Turks and Caicos Islands with all the legal backing that it will require, to ensure that in a real earthquake situation, the Department of Disaster and all the other agencies have the mandate to carry out the task that are outlined in the plan.”

Molo is partnering with the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC) to actively promote hospitality as a career choice and support in developing training programs, career fairs, seminars, workshops, and events to raise awareness about hospitality careers. Molo has committed to provide employment and apprentice opportunities to TCICC students and provide mentoring and practical on property training to students.

This project will bring economic growth, embrace local talent, and enrich our economy.”

#TurksandCaicos, May 13, 2024 – Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have
charged a man who allegedly stole a vehicle.
The accused, DANVANTE BRISCO, 30, of Kew Town, Providenciales, was charged with:
- One Count: Robbery
- One Count: Taking Motor Vehicle Without Authority
- One Count: Using Offensive Weapon to cause fear
Mr. BRISCO appeared in court today (May 13 ) and was granted bail of $7500.00 with one surety.
The matter was adjourned to July 05 for a Sufficiency Hearing.
#TurksandCaicos, May 13, 2024 – A 20-year-old Dock Yard male appeared in court today (May 13th) charged with a series of firearm-related offences.
The accused, JAMES SIMON, was denied bail and remanded into custody pending a Sufficiency Hearing scheduled for July 05th, 2024.
Mr. SIMON faces the following charges:
- One Count: Robbery;
- One Count: Gang Membership
- One Count: Possession of a Firearm for the Benefit of a Gang
- One Count: Possession of Ammunition for the Benefit of a Gang.
The charges against Mr. Simon followed investigations by officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force into a robbery at the parking lot of a Casino where three males robbed a victim.
Additionally, Mr. Simon is charged with the following offences, having been arrested on May 02nd, 2024, along South Dock Road.
- One Count: Possession of a Firearm
- One Count: Possession of Ammunition
- One Count: Unlawful Entry
Officers also charged a teenage minor who was in the company of Mr. Simon on May 02nd with One Count of UNLAWFUL ENTRY.
The accused, seventeen and from Kew Town, Providenciales, pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on May 20th.
