Providenciales, TCI, September 16, 2016 – Today marked the culmination of many months of hard work from across the TCI community and beyond, as H. E. The Governor officially opened a new ‘lunch gazebo’ at Eliza Simons Primary School to replace one destroyed by hurricane Ike in 2008.
School principal Mrs. Juliet Arthur –Thelwell welcomed everyone, followed by a blessing from school Chaplin, Dr. Linda Williams, and remarks from Mr. Russell Cox, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education, Séamus Day President of GTFT Inc. and H. E. The Governor, Hon. Peter Beckingham and a vote of thanks by school teacher Mrs. Denise Jagroop.
The structure will serve many functions and has been built to a very high durability standard by Olympic Construction Ltd, and is already seeing heavy use by the schools students.
The GTFT Inc. fishing tournament raised funds thorough our 2015 tournament to build the structure, and would like to thank the entire TCI community for their incredible support, with far too many supporters and sponsors to mention individually.
However, deserving special mention are the principal, teachers and students of Ona Glinton (North) Primary School for putting their allocation of funds raised in the 2015 tournament towards this project, in a true and admirable community spirit. Mr. Edwin Dickinson and Olympic Construction Ltd. for their sterling work and significant financial
contribution, and H E The Governors Office for financial, materials and labour contributions; and they even managed to “press gang” the Royal Navy into painting the structure during the recent visit of RFA Wave Knight.
Miss Arthur-Thelwell was delighted with the new structure and encouraged her students to make good use of it, but to take care of it also. H. E. The Governor recognized the amount of work that goes on in the background for this type of project and generally encouraged all the students present to excel in everything they do, and even remarked that there could be a future Premier or Minister present amongst the students present, which caused much excitement amongst the children.
A brief ribbon cutting ceremony ensued with the Governor declaring the gazebo officially opened.
Special thanks to H. E The Governor and Mrs. Jill, Beckingham, Mrs Thellwell-Arthur and all the amazing staff at South School, the incredibly hard working committee members of GTFT Inc. Mitchell Loeb, Rebecca Cain, Algrove “Smitty” Smith, Chris Davies James, Hilary Day, Jack Seery & Everette Freites, all our incredible volunteers, sponsors and supporters for making this all possible.
Note: GTFT Inc. is a TCI registered not for profit specifically set up as a fund raising vehicle to support local good causes. Past recipients of support have been the GT Wellness Center, H J Robinson High School, South School and this year will be the TCI Community College Campus.
