Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Tuesday, 5 August 2025: The Ministry of Health and Human Services proudly participated in the launch of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, held under the theme “Stronger Together: Advancing Caribbean Health through Collaboration, Innovation, and Sustainable Action” from 30 – 31 July 2025, in Georgetown, Guyana.
Representing the Turks and Caicos Islands at the high-level regional event were Mr. Lynrod Brooks, Director of Health Policy and Planning, and Mrs. Marah Smith, Head of Secretariat.
The event convened Chief Medical Officers, Permanent Secretaries, Policy Directors, and senior health officials from CARPHA Member States, alongside regional and international development partners, including a representative from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), who currently leads the UK Overseas Territory Programme.
CARPHA’s Strategic Plan sets forth the Agency’s priorities over the next five years, with a focus on strengthening regional health security, advancing digital health solutions, building climate-resilient health systems, and addressing the rising burden of non-communicable diseases. It seeks to enhance the Caribbean’s ability to effectively respond to both current and emerging public health threats.
In alignment with CARPHA’s renewed direction, the Turks and Caicos Islands’ National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2024–2027
emphasises health system resilience, integrated disease surveillance, human resource development, and improved service delivery. The Ministry of Health and Human Services is committed to leveraging regional cooperation to accelerate the implementation of key strategic priorities, particularly in the areas of health information systems, climate and health, and non-communicable disease prevention and control.
Commenting on the significance of the launch, Hon. Kyle Knowles, Minister of Health and Human Services, stated:
“The launch of CARPHA’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan is both timely and essential. As small island developing states, we face increasing health challenges that require strong regional coordination and tailored support. The Turks and Caicos Islands stands in full support of CARPHA’s renewed vision for a healthier, more resilient Caribbean. We are committed to working closely with our regional partners to implement solutions that safeguard the health and well-being of our people.”
During the event, Mr. Brooks and Mrs. Smith participated in technical discussions and strategic planning sessions to ensure that the national priorities of the Turks and Caicos Islands are reflected in regional initiatives.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to aligning its national health agenda with CARPHA’s strategic objectives, particularly in the areas of disease surveillance, laboratory strengthening, non-communicable disease prevention, and health workforce development.
This engagement underscores the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to build a robust, responsive, and resilient health system for the Turks and Caicos Islands, in partnership with regional and international stakeholders.
