Turks and Caicos, August 29, 2025 – A new era in maritime security — and it’s kicking off with a bang. The TCI Regiment’s newly commissioned patrol vessel, Frederick Basden, completed its very first interception last week, underscoring the rapid ramp‑up of the Islands’ coast‑guarding capacity.

Commissioned in July 2025 at South Side Marina, the Frederick Basden — alongside its sister ship, George Henry — formally inaugurated the TCI Regiment’s Maritime Troop. Built by SAFE Boats International, both vessels are tributes to Turks and Caicos Islanders who sacrificed their lives in global conflicts — with the Basden name honoring a brave World War II hero. The launch marked a significant upgrade in the Regiment’s ability to confront growing maritime threats.

Last week, the Basden responded swiftly to a “vessel of interest,” arriving on scene before the Marine Branch cutter George Henry — another sign of truly operational capacity. Together, the vessels and their crews intercepted 146 individuals (115 males and 31 females, with no minors reported), all of whom were handed over to the Border Force. The successful operation was celebrated as a prime example of coordinated, multi-agency maritime response in TCI waters.

This critical milestone not only demonstrates the readiness of MV Frederick Basden but also underscores a broader strategic vision: stronger defenses through enhanced platforms and elite training. As the Islands continue to face dynamic transnational threats — from irregular migration to illegal fishing and smuggling — these vessels are reshaping the operational landscape.

With the Maritime Troop now active and the regiment better equipped than ever, the arrival of the Frederick Basden isn’t just symbolic — it’s a powerful statement of sovereignty and readiness in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
