Turks and Caicos, January 30, 2025 – Police have now charged STRAUGHN SWANN, 30, of Robinson Street, Five Cays with the murder of his own mother, ELVA ANNABELLE TALBOT on the evening of January 16, 2025.
It was the first murder of the year.
Swann was said to have been arrested on the day of the killing. He was reportedly found at the Howard Hamilton International Airport in Providenciales, suspected of trying to escape questioning by authorities.
A Royal TCI Police statement on January 29 informed, “The accused appeared before a Magistrate yesterday (January 28) and was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison pending a sufficiency hearing on March 7th 2025.
The charges against Mr. SWANN state that on January 15th, 2025, in Providenciales, he murdered
Ms. Talbot, Contrary to Section 3 of the Offenses Against the Person Ordinance Chapter 3.08.”
People who know the family say the 30-year old suffers ill mental health, however authorities are not speaking to specifics of the matter which will eventually become public when the case gets to court.
Beyond the questions about what could have motivated a son to allegedly and fatally attack his mother, is Elva Talbot’s well-known work as a minister and apostle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and her upcoming nuptials, planned for early this year.
In the hours following the initial investigations, Superintendent Dean Holden who is Head of Crime, Safeguarding, Public Protection, and Intelligence informed, “Shortly after 2 p.m., our Police Control Room received a call for assistance on Robinson Street. Our officers, along with medical personnel, were dispatched and, upon entering the given residence, discovered the lifeless body of a female with what appeared to be stab wounds.”
Apostle Talbot, also an author and a founding minister at New Life Global Harvest Ministries, was found dead in her home in Five Cays.
Her church family posted these sentiments, “Her legacy of grace, compassion, and faith is a beacon that will illuminate our hearts forever. As we reflect on her extraordinary life, let us embrace her teachings and continue to nurture the love she so selflessly poured into our communities. May we honor her memory through acts of kindness and service, echoing the profound impact she made in our lives.
Rest in glory, dear Matriarch. With the leading and aid of The Holy Spirit, the Impartation of Grace, we remain resilient and committed to the vision.”
