Turks and Caicos, January 26, 2025 – The fires in Wheeland have stopped was a resounding declaration for incumbent, Kyle Knowles as stomping for his Progressive National Party (PNP) moved into the, January 18.
“That is mainly because I have listened, heard and taken decisive action,” said Knowles at the rally.
“We have made a contract in the value of $2.9 million with TCI Green Ecological Corporation and invested over $450,000 in the fire extinguishing initiative and the consultation for the major improvements at the dump to build and to create a safer, more healthy environment for our families. I can tell you there is no more smoke, no more fires and you are getting the Wheeland you deserve.”
Knowles won in the 2021 General Election by just three votes, ending domination of a PDM stronghold in the northern part of Providenciales. It was an upset which unseated Delroy Williams (PDM). Williams is however back in the running for the coveted seat which is home to 839 electors.
Knowles, who in the final months of the PNP Administration was appointed as a the Minister of Public Safety and Utilities told supporters gathered for his Wheeland Rally, that he understands representation.
“We have invested in critical infrastructure. We now have the sidewalks on Bay road and Tom Lightbourne drive. We have city water that runs the length and breadth of this constituency. We’ve had road grading, we’ve had improvements in the lights and there is more to come because that is what true representation is.”
He also said community spirit was important to him. Explaining to a live audience over Facebook that his initiatives have inspired a response from the PDM side.
“I will tell you that I have worked tirelessly to enhance our community spirit by engagement. Something that our community has lacked for many years and I’m gonna tell you something all of a sudden now, they gat Facebook page, they gat Instagram page they wanna do back to school initiatives, they do all kinds of things and they had 12 years to do it, but we putting pain on them, now they wanna show up.”
He listed Easter Basket drive, Back to School haircuts, pop up fitness and signature events namely the Wheeland Whiplash and the Wheeland Fish Fry.
“My opponent, for the second time, who served for 12 years, with far more experience and resources at his disposal failed, I say failed to achieve even half of what we have accomplished (by me) as a first timer. They had 12 years to make a difference, 12 years to show that they cared about this community… what did we get? No results!”
But what is this candidate talking about when it comes to his bid for a re-election and a return of confidence by the voters, which have increased by 142 this election cycle. At the rally, his focus shifted to a national concern, something that many have described as a crisis in need of an urgent remedy; affordable housing.
“I’ve heard your concerns about home ownership and the rising cost of rent and it warms my heart to say that this government has purchased 100+ acres for the development of public housing to ensure a future is brighter for you, Turks and Caicos. So that home ownership is no longer just a figment of our imagination but a reality,” said Knowles to blowing horns and whistles.
“This campaign is about you! It is about securing and ensuring that you have the resources, support and the community you deserve.”
He promised that if given a second time in office, he would be both professional and personal, devoted, he said, to securing what would make life easier and happier for the people of Wheeland.
Around 7,100 voters watched the PNP livestream of the rally in ED10, carried on Facebook.
