Turks and Caicos, October 25, 2024 – A mother and her son, injured in a serious accident in Long Bay during the recent hurricane, required emergency airlift to an overseas medical facility for further treatment but for an inexplicable reason, the medivac service was slow in coming.
The woman had been travelling west in the heavy of Hurricane Oscar when she somehow lost control of the car and hit a wall. In the car with the woman were her two sons; a teenager and a toddler. The younger of which was uninjured in the accident.
The mother, was listed as critical along with her eldest son and with no answers to her satisfaction took to Facebook Live where she shared her ordeal. It drew hundreds of viewers and rapidly raised the prominence of her dilemma.
From her hospital bed the woman reached out to Eagle Legal News to express concern about delays in her emergency transfer. That was Monday morning, October 21.
Community outrage and interventions by government and non government leaders together helped to speed up the medical evacuation. It was reportedly delayed due to the hurricane which remained in the area. Residents however sided with the patient who explained that she needed urgent care.
Her son had already left for the Cayman Islands by medivac.
At last check, the report is both patients – who are in Cayman – are recovering well.
