JOINT STATEMENT ON NATIONAL SECURITY FROM HER EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR AND THE HONOURABLE PREMIER

Turks and Caicos, October 18, 2024 – Today, we have reached a tragic and deeply concerning milestone with the 40th murder recorded this year. Every life lost is a devastating blow to our community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by this senseless violence.

This situation is unacceptable. We want to assure you that we are taking decisive action to secure our law enforcement response and build our capability to deal with the threats we face. In the last month, the RTCIPF has received additional specialist capability assigned to the serious crime team and tactical firearms unit.

Our multi-agency law enforcement efforts have intensified in high-risk areas, with intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting and dismantling criminal groups.

The safety of our communities and all who visit is our top priority. In addition to strengthening law enforcement capability, we are taking committed steps to address the root causes of crime, taking action across sectors to expand crime prevention and community outreach programmes that build safer, more resilient neighbourhoods.

Ending this cycle of violence requires all of us to work together.
