Trinidad and Tobago, September 4, 2024 – There are estimated to be some 3.7 million people who can directly lay claim to Trinidad and Tobago as inherently theirs. It is one of the first CARICOM countries to gain independence and a culturally and historically exhilarating member of the Caribbean community.
On August 31, 2024 under the theme: ‘From Roots to Recognition’ the country was blanketed in the national flag colours of Red, Black and White and ceremonies were held to recall the path from colony to country.
Numerous tributes and accolades, recent national strides including the steps which now cement the steelpan as the national instrument of TT and UN endorsement which makes August 11 World Steelpan Day, president of Trinidad and Tobago, Christine Kangaloo delivered a glowing praise for her people.
“Through storm and sunshine, it has remained raised ever since. Red, white and black flying high, a symbol of our people united as we move toward a brighter future,” said President Kangaloo at the annual presidential toast held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts.
Speaking to the indomitability of her country men and women, a final declaration in her special remarks, “Today we celebrate all that is good and right about TT with hope and prayer, today we celebrate our triumph. Ladies and gentlemen, Happy 62nd anniversary to our independent state.”
