#TurksandCaicos, June 18, 2024 – Minister of Immigration and Border Services, Hon. Arlington Musgrove has heaped praises on one of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) pioneer aviation leaders, Howard Hamilton, for his “relentless pursuit for excellence.”

The Minister who addressed the recent renaming of the Providenciales International Airport, to the Howard Hamilton International Airport held on May 22, said Mr. Hamilton’s contribution to aviation and humanitarian endeavours have left an indelible mark on “our hearts and in the skies.

“Howard Hamilton, a name that resonates with the spirit of adventure and service, was a true pioneer in the aviation industry, and his journey was one defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence, and a boundless passion for flight,” Minister Musgrove told his audience.

He added that the honouree’s vision transcended borders, bringing communities closer, and opening up “new horizons” for travel and trade, in the blue skies above, and his planes became “beacon of hope,” and connection “carrying dreams and aspirations to distance shores.

“It was not just his accomplishments in the cockpit that set Hamilton a part, it was his unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes that truly distinguished him. In times of crisis, when others faltered, Hamilton rose to the occasion, facilitating Government preparation efforts between Providenciales and Haiti, offering solace and support to those in need,” the Minister said.

Mr. Musgrove highlighted further that the TCI stands on the “threshold of a new era,” and renaming the airport, reflects Mr. Hamilton’s legacy, which is defined by courage, compassion, and camaraderie. “Let us celebrate the spirt of Howard Hamilton,” in service and humility, Minister Musgrave said.

Shortly after his secondary education, Mr. Hamilton relocated to The Bahamas where he met his wife and started a family, and later joined the Nassau Flying Club, which was the start of his aviation career. He also lived in Florida, USA where he obtained his pilot’s license in 1975.

The airport is implementing a multi-million-dollar terminal, which is expected to open before 2028. It will support the TCI’s status as a leading Caribbean tourist destination, while also meeting the needs of residents and visitors.
