#Haiti#Crisis#Gangs, March 06th, 2024 – Heavily armed Gangs in Haiti, on Monday March 5, tried to take control of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport and reports say they battled police and soldiers. According to the Associated Press, Journalists witnessed an armored truck on the tarmac firing at the Gangs in efforts to prevent them from entering the airport grounds while employees fled for safety. The airport was closed after the attack. This happened after a 72 hour state of emergency and a night curfew was declared as well as after thousands of prison inmates were broken out of jail. Also the airport was shot at last week during the ongoing gang attacks.

As Haiti is being torn apart, Prime Minister Ariel Henry was still out of the country, according to reports, which also inform that the attacks on the airport were done to keep him out. Turns out he was secretly in the United States after arriving from Nairobi Kenya, trying to negotiate a quiet return to Haiti with the Dominican Republic, going through Santo Domingo. But on his way, Santo Domingo, reports reveal, refused to land him and so his plane had to land in San Juan Puerto Rico. Due to the happenings at the airport, he is unable to land there directly. During all this, Henry, according to reports, received a proposal from the US State Department to agree to a new transitional government and resign. Additionally, Caribbean leaders, former Prime Ministers and opposition leaders in Haiti met over zoom where his resignation came up and now reports say foreign diplomats agree that he should return to Haiti with a plan. Whether this plan includes his resignation is now the major question, as Henry remains in Puerto Rico.
