Meet the Turks & Caicos NEW Commissioner of Police

#TurksandCaicos, December 15, 2023 – The new Police Commissioner of the Turks and Caicos Islands has been hired after a three-and-a-half month search in the form of Edvin Martin, Former Head of the Royal Grenada Police Force.

The Turks and Caicos managed to sway the FBI graduate away from his current post as lead of the CARICOM Crime Gun Intelligence Unit as part of the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security.

Announced by Dileeni Daniel Selvaratnam, TCI Governor, the appointment reportedly followed ‘a rigorous open recruitment campaign that included a stakeholder panel, separate community panel, and consultation with Premier Charles Washington Misick.’

Martin enlisted in the Royal Grenada Police Force on July 1st, 1986.He was appointed Commissioner of Police (Acting) July 2nd 2018 and was later confirmed Commissioner December 2020. He served in  that post till June 2023.

“With a distinguished career and commitment to public safety, I am confident that Mr Martin will lead our force with integrity, innovation and a firm focus to build trust with communities across our islands,” the Governor said.

Martin said looking forward to leading the police force with practical, proactive strategies.

“This era demands a police force that must ensure safety and security by working collaboratively with colleague officers, and stakeholders to ensure that communities are free of the fear of crime. Be assured I am committed to delivering on this intention.”

Martin is a former President of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police and obtained a MSc in Criminology & Criminal Justice from Durham University in 2016 where he studied under the UK Chevening Scholarship programme.

Martin will take up his post at the beginning of February 2024 where he will replace Trevor Botting who was scheduled to leave his post last month.
