#TurksandCaicos, November 10, 2023 – For former Turks and Caicos public sector workers who had spent years without an official government pension, the portal to register for the TCIG Terminal Benefits Program is now fully functional; Deputy Governor reports some $16 Million is already in the bank.

The news came from Anya Williams, Deputy Governor and Head of the Public Service, who indicated that the program would be launched in two phases.

Phase one which is now complete, dealt with the ease of access on the website allowing residents to register with only their Date of Birth (dd/mm/yyyy); Employee ID (found on monthly payslip) and TCIG email address.

Phase two will ‘enhance the system’s capabilities by facilitating benefit calculation and tracking data, providing comprehensive support for all participants,’ The DG  said.

There will be three categories which will apply to three different categories of workers. They are:

  1. The Pre-1992 Program  for Public Servants confirmed before April 6, 1992;
  2. Post-1992 Program for Public Servants confirmed after April 6, 1992 and;
  3. Contract Employees: Public Servants with contracted lengths of employment and receive gratuities.

The lack of a proper pension plan for local workers had been a serious concern for residents In the Turks and Caicos for years.

H.E. Williams explained that the program already has significant cash reserves with $16 million in the bank from both Government contributions and Employee contributions.

It has already given payouts for over two dozen former workers in a plan which had been revamped by the current PNP Administration and comes a decade after it was shelved in 2012.

The DG  says the government is still looking for a company to run the day to day operations of the program and is now encouraging all Public Servants to register as it will speed up the delivery when their benefits become due.
