#TurksandCaicos, October 23, 2023 – Concern and anger are what some Turks and Caicos residents are feeling this week following a new report that claims UK investigations found corruption and poor practice in the Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.

Residents speaking to the news team expressed anger at the portrayal of the local Force in international media; others were more frustrated that the damning reports had been allowed to fester with no response from Trevor Botting, the outgoing Police Commissioner.

Trevor Botting has been part of the top brass for some time, having arrived in the country as Deputy Commissioner in 2017.  He was appointed Commissioner in 2019 and given an extension on his tenure last year by former governor, Nigel Dakin.

It’s not unusual for commissioners and other public servants to respond to reports shared by the media.  Botting himself recently responded to a local article which he said contained factual inaccuracies, at great length.

The Force’s communication has improved somewhat in the past year with more press releases featuring the Commissioner and other high-ranking members.   But the Royal TCI Police has opted for silence on this latest critique.

Reported findings from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office review shared by The Guardian include poor record keeping, poor management structure, an inability to manage the 2022 crime wave and corruption.

We reached out to the press liaison officer, Denyse Renne, for reaction from Commissioner Botting to the news article which was published on Monday October 16, 2023.  However, no response was shared with Magnetic Media up to news publication time.
