#TurksandCaicos, September 19, 2023 – The People’s Democratic Movement is slamming the most recent press conference from Shaun Malcolm, Minister of Health, as tantamount to a waste of time.  In a recent publication, the Party said it was still searching for the message behind the press conference which had to do with a scuffle over food rations with the TCI Hospitals.

“Hon. Shaun Malcolm, The Minister of Health, held a press conference early last week on September 5th, 2023, in which he told the people of the Turks and Caicos nothing.

The Country is going through a health crisis with significant hot issues such as NHIP and even newer issues with dialysis patients being cut out of the latest budget.  The Minister of Health used his national audience to put on a 17-minute showing of how out of touch this government is,” the PDM contended.

The publication challenged his claim that the ministry had not seen the leaked letter from the TCI Hospital to patients, which had made the situation public, announcing that rations would be discontinued by September 4th.

The PDM’s take is that deliberations must have taken place with TCIG prior to the letter being distributed and questioned how this flew under the Minister’s radar.

“How is it that the minister remained in the dark? Is it a lack of information or a lack of interest?  Secrets have been a common thread in this government, telling us 20 percent of the story and leaving the rest to be desired.”

The Party also critiqued the lack of communication from the Washington Misick-led Administration once again and vowed that should they be elected, their ministers would be on the ball and always held accountable.

“It’s this current PNP Administration that poses the greatest threat to our democracy, because they are grossly incompetent, have no idea of what they are doing; they hide behind the curtains on every issue and basically, they do not have a clue or simply just don’t care.  This is a very bad position for our country to be in,” said Astwood, Leader of the Opposition.
