#Guyana, August 18, 2023 – Two children have died in Guyana from dengue, ages nine and eleven, as confirmed by Dr. Frank Anthony, Guyana health Minister.

Before the infection claimed their lives, the children were being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Fortunately, the hospital reported that no more children are in critical care for dengue.

In fact, according to media reports throughout Guyana one of the two children who passed away  following five days in the ICU,  was enrolled in a primary school from Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, who spent five days in the ICU before passing away.

Details of the other child were not revealed.

Dengue cases throughout Guyana have been relatively high as revealed in official data which says an estimated 3,453 people have been infected so far this year, with 2,169 of those cases still marked as active.

Considering this, efforts are being made to combat the spread of the disease  as pointed out by Anthony who expressed that  fogging have been taking place for all areas
