#TurksandCaicos, July 3, 2023 – At a hearing on Monday June 12th before His lordship the Hon Mr. Davidson Kelvin Baptiste in the Grand Turk Supreme Court, Nayasha Hatmin announced that the DPP has advised that they will be proceeding with a retrial against WILKENSON BEAUTE.

This means they will not be dropping the charges for the murder of the unknown and unnamed man that was shot and killed at the dump site in Providenciales on April 18, 2023.

BEAUTE, was tried along with a co-defendant, who was acquitted at halftime submission at their joint trial which ran from April through to June 2, 2023.

The trial resulted in a hung jury for BEAUTE.  Seven of the 12 member jury believed Beaute was not guilty, but five voted that he was guilty of murder.

Senior Defence counsel, Lara Maroof-Misick applied for bail for her client but that was shot down; she aimed to make a case for Wilkenson Beaute, who had been remanded for well over three years awaiting the murder trial.

The bail application was opposed by the Crown and the Judge refused to release Beaute on bail pending his new retrial.

No confirmed, fixed new trial date has been set as yet but this could take place in 2024.
