#TurksandCaicos, July 2, 2023 – After multiple delays caused by crime and supply chain difficulties the Department of Statistics has received some more time to complete Turks and Caicos’ National Census.

The Government has pushed the Census Order, which legally authorizes the information gathering exercise, to September of this year.

Results of the Census are anxiously awaited as the country goes through an employment crisis, and teeters on the brink of a housing crisis that the Government is working swiftly to resolve.

The update was shared via Cabinet minutes following a meeting on Wednesday June 21st at the Premier’s Office on Providenciales.

Cabinet members stressed how important the census was, describing it as a tool designed to provide vital statistics for policymakers.

The country has not had a census in over a decade and the last census results were never shared in full. This time the Department of Statistics is using technology that will collate information immediately and lessen human error.

The newest Census was launched on Thursday April 13.
