#TurksandCaicos, July 17, 2023 – As unsolved murder cases pile up, the Opposition PDM party is pointing the finger at the Premier and the Commissioner of Police describing the government as ‘overwhelmed and in need of assistance’.

The statement came from Robert Been, Deputy Party Leader of the PDM during a July 13 press conference, which was carried live on Facebook.

“These unsolved cases can be seen as a clear indication that either our premier is not allocating sufficient resources to combat crime or our commissioner of police lacks the answers or solutions to address this escalating issue,” he said.

Been maintained that the government would have to get down to the people’s level to fix the issue

“We must engage in genuine and comprehensive consultation with community stakeholders to undertake the underlying issues and build trust between the residents and the police force.”

He bemoaned the recent beheading of a man in Providenciales, describing it as a wake-up call.

“It serves as a shocking reminder of the gruesome crimes plaguing our beloved Turks and Caicos Islands,” he said.

He also called for a comprehensive approach to not only solving crime but preventing criminal acts in the first place investing in social and economic intervention as well.

Been also said that a lack of access to funds was stifling islanders and committed to ensuring the playing field was levelled to embrace entrepreneurship among islanders.

“The PDM pledges to implement economic policies that empower our people  to also achieve happiness within our country.” He continued “We the PDM will provide a robust economic agenda that provides access to capital better opportunities and credit facilities.”
