#TurksandCaicos, May 15, 2023 – The Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) has ended and the Turks and Caicos delegation reportedly used its time with the UK’s top representatives well, raising some of the most pressing local issues.

The delegation was headed by Washington Misick, TCI Premier and Anya Williams, Acting Governor from the 9th to the 12th of May.  The first two days were filled with meetings to prepare for the official start of the JMC.  There were several significant updates on this process.

Though no official communication from the actual JMC (May 11th -12th) has yet been shared, the Premier has secured promises of impending action in the realm of Border Security and Constitutional Reform.

In updates from Williams shared on over the weekend residents were given a small peek at the closed door meetings.  “The two day session focused on a number of areas key to the OT’s including: Economic and Financial Resilience, Environment and Climate Change, Healthcare, Education and Law Enforcement and Illegal Migration.  Premier Misick provided contributions on behalf of the TCI to all of the above areas, but delivered a special presentation on Law Enforcement and Irregular Migration, which are both critical to the TCI at this time,” she explained.

The relationship between local leaders and Dileeni Daneil-Selvaratnam, the Turks and Caicos’ Designate Governor was also strengthened at the JMC as she chatted along with both Misick and Williams whom she will have to work alongside when she arrives in the country in a month and a half.

Selvaratnam has met up with TCI representatives at several international events across the US and the UK as she prepares for a smooth transition into her role as Head of State.

The delegation is slated to return to the country by Monday May 15th.
