#Cuba, May 23, 2023 – Cuba’s tourism sector is set to see some growth as its Government made agreements with the Russia to foster the development of the industry, signing cooperation accords during a bilateral meeting in Havana.
As a result of the newly signed agreements, Varadero, Cuba’s tourist centre, as announced by Sergei Vladimirovich Alexandrovsky, general director Russian airline, Aeroflot, will now receive direct flights from Moscow Russian.
The signing occurred during Cuba’s 20th Session of their Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical collaboration, held Thursday May 18th, 2023, and Manuel Marrero, Cuban Prime Minister and Dmitri N. Chernyshenko, Russian Government Vice- President chaired the meeting.
Juan Carlos Garcia, Cuban Tourism Minister spoke to the meeting’s participants of the potential and opportunities for Cuba as a tourist destination.
Additionally, Chernyshenko emphasized the need for the reconstruction of Cuba’s tourism sector; the repair of hotels, training of specialists in the hotel sector and the modernization of infrastructure.
He also expressed that efforts should be focused on boosting the number of tourist arrivals, about 500,000 Russian vacationers annually.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed between Cuba’s local Tourism Ministry and the Russian Economic Development Ministry alongside other agreements regarding training and trips.
