Barbados Leads as Caribbean Countries Fail to make World Citizenship Index Top 20

#Barbados, May 5, 2023 – Barbados ranked highest at 40, for the World Citizenship Index; the Caribbean in general failed however to make the Top 20 list.  This was revealed by the second World Citizenship Report for CS Partners.

Following Barbados is The Bahamas, ranking 44th.   Then comes St.Kitts at 48th and Grenada at 49th.  Ranking in the 50s we have Dominica at 52nd, St.Lucia at 53rd, and Trinidad and Tobago at 55th.   Additionally, Jamaica was further on the lower end ranking 71st, not too far from the Dominican Republic at 76th.

Also in the 70s was Suriname at 79th, then Guyana at 81st. Belize ranked 86th with Cuba coming in at 97th.  The Republic of Haiti ranked the lowest at 141st.

The US missed the Top 20 by a little, ranking 29th, while African countries occupied the bottom 10 positions with Somalia at 185th.  The Top 3 countries were Switzerland, Denmark and Finland, evidently making the Top 20.

The report measures 188 countries over five categories that are deemed relevant to the newest generation of global citizens. These categories are Safety, Security, Economic Opportunity. Quality of life, Global Mobility and Financial Freedom.

For safety and security, coming out on top from the Caribbean at 38th out of 169 nations was Dominica then Barbados at 39th.

Under Economic opportunity, Antigua and Barbuda alongside The Bahamas topped the region at 63rd out of 128 countries.

For Quality of life it was Trindad and Tobago on the front burner at 55th out of 162 countries, Barbados behind at 56th and Antigua and Barbuda at 59th.

Also, for this category Jamaica ranked 96th  and Guyana 102nd.

Global Mobility was taken by Barbados at 27th out of 134 countries, The Bahamas second at 29th. St.Kitts and Nevis followed third at 37th then Guyana at 73rd, right above Jamaica at 75th.

Lastly, for financial freedom Barbados is again in the lead with 29th of 153 nations. The Bahamas was right below them at 31st and St.Vincent at 41sth. Jamaica took the 59th spot then Guyana at 89th.

This makes it another year since the Caribbean failed to make the Top 20.
