#TurksandCaicos, March 15, 2023 – InterCaribbean Airways has opened up a new route to St Kitts and Nevis, filling a major travel gap as it continues to make good on its promise to connect the Caribbean.

The service, which began on March 12, 2023, runs from the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados to Robert Bradshaw International Airport in St. Kitts, and will connect with services to Dominica; Grenada; St. Lucia; Saint Vincent and Guyana.

Sunday’s inaugural flight was welcomed by a water cannon salute as the aircraft landed.  The Crew members too were greeted with a cultural display courtesy of the Saint Kitts Tourism Authority.

“This new offering is set to increase the number of regional travellers to the Federation of St Kitts, which will positively impact the destination’s Summer of Fun activities such as the St. Kitts Music Festival, Nevis Mango Festival, Restaurant Week, Culturama, CPL T20, and the newly introduced Kittitian RumMaster Program,” said InterCaribbean.

Marsha Henderson, Minister of Tourism for Saint Kitts also expressed joy at the development.  She told local media house Kittitian Heartbeat that the new flight’s arrival was an inspiring day in tourism for the country as it struggles to get back on its feet after being ravaged by COVID-19.

“Regional travel has been impacted significantly as a result of an adequate airlift within the region due to the limitations of the existing regional carriers. Presently, travel within the area is characterized by expensive trips to the United States with overnight stays or multiple trips within the region,” she explained.

Prior to COVID, Henderson said the Caribbean had been the country’s second largest in this market for travel. Now, InterCaribbean Airways will be a part of the attempt to revive that, flying a 30-seater Embraer 120 three times weekly to the Caribbean destination.

“This development is undoubtedly significant for St. Kitts and Nevis and the entire region,” Henderson said.

InterCaribbean is expected to add another flight service to the country via Puerto Rico.
