Staff of the Vector Control Unit attend the 89th American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) Annual Conference

#TurksandCaicos, March 12, 2023 – The Environmental Health Department Vector Control Unit consisting of Ms. Zatanya Handfield Vector Control Coordinator, Mr. Deon Wilson Vector Control Supervisor and Mr. Hilton Robinson Vector Control Supervisor, attended the 89th American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) Annual Conference held in Nevada, Reno on February 27th-March 3rd 2023.

 Ms. Handfield in commenting on the conference stated that “This conference was a great opportunity for the Vector Control Unit team members to stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in mosquito control. Attending the AMCA Annual Conference allowed the team to connect with other professionals in the field and learn about new technologies, strategies, and best practices for controlling mosquito populations. As a science/education, not for profit public service association, the AMCA plays an important role in promoting the health and well-being of communities worldwide by advancing the science and practice of mosquito control.”

 EHD is committed to safe-guarding the public against vectors which can cause diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika in the TCI. This conference, along with a number of other coordinated activities in partnership with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the UK Health Security Agency, is aimed at strengthening the TCI’s Vector Control Unit and the important services it delivers to communities throughout the TCI.
