#TurksandCaicos, March 9, 2023As only the second woman to hold the position of Country Manager at Flow in 125 years and passionate about women in STEM, Joanne Missick is a living example of the International Women’s Day 2023 theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”

“Women are problem solvers and connectors, and this is the heart and essence of the business I work in,” she told MM in a recent interview, describing the perspective that women bring to different fields of STEM.

Missick started her journey at Cable and Wireless Operations Service Center as an Operator in 1999. She rose to lead her sales team, where she earned the top ranking in the company’s sales performances across the region before becoming TCI Country Manager in 2020.

Missick told us that her position gives her a unique advantage to help herd more women into STEM and the Information and Communication Technologies sector specifically.

“It feels exciting to be at the centre of an industry that is playing an integral role in shaping the way we live and work and to have a leading role in developing the ICT space in TCI,” Missick said. “It has certainly given me a great platform to encourage younger women and girls coming up to not be afraid to take up space, and demonstrate your abilities and at the same time to create room for even more of them to consider careers in this challenging and dynamic industry,” she explained.

Considering the role Flow plays in allowing more women to get their foot in the door, she said: “Flow TCI is a company that is proud to say that we champion diversity and inclusion, and we have women at the forefront, helm, and heart of our business. We celebrate the strengths that both men and women bring to the table. I feel proud to work for a company that is progressively creating roles and opportunities for women in the ICT space.”

Missick maintained that women were celebrated for what they brought to the table at the branch of the company she leads in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

“Our mission as a company is to Connect Communities and Change Lives, and women are helping to mobilize this mission from the inside out, through the roles they occupy and the unique perspective they bring to their work.”

It is one of the reasons Missick describes the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day as  incredibly timely:  “As our world becomes more and more dependent on businesses like the one I lead

to keep connected and to power their businesses and dreams— Technology has given women equal ability to harness its power to grow and develop their ideas and businesses. It has and continues to be a great equalizer that empowers everyone to drive the progress of humanity and the world at large.”
