#TheBahamas, December 22, 2022 – Two months after an agreement was signed for the development of a $250 million cruise port resort on Long Island, the government, Azul Destinations and Calypso Cove Development officially broke ground on Monday, December 19, to signify the beginning of construction for the project.

The development, which will be called Calypso Cove, when completed, will include a port area, a 200 – room hotel, a casino, a waterpark, marina facilities for mega yachts, a recreational lighthouse and a Junkanoo art plaza. It will also feature a zip line, rock climbing wall, sporting activities, excursions and an 18-hole golf course.

In speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Chester Cooper, Minister of Tourism, Aviation, and Investment noted that the project marks roughly $1 billion in cruise infrastructure investment in The Bahamas over the last two years and $6 billion worth of investment approved by the government over the last year.

Prime Minister Philip Davis said his administration is determined and committed to ensuring that investments are decentralized for “the whole Bahamas from the Nassau-centric model that it has been over the years”.

More than 300 people will be employed to work on the project when construction begins.
