#TurksandCaicos, August 21, 2022 – The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is now agreeing with members of the public who – once aware of the serious verdict of guilt of professional misconduct against the newly hired senior public prosecutor – said the reputation and criminal cases of the office were at risk as long as Sophia Thomas remained employed there.

In a press statement, Director Eugene Otuonye informed that the verdict for Thomas impacts the reputation of his Office, the Bar Association and the TCI Public Service.  As a result Thomas has resigned as of August 3; that resignation was accepted by head of the public service, Deputy Governor Anya Williams.

Careful deliberation followed the Jamaica ruling on a pending case for Ms. Thomas, who is from Jamaica and who worked in the office of the DPP there.

The Director said though Ms. Thomas can appeal the verdict, it was determined that it was best she resign her post in TCI and hand over her case files.

A Jamaica Gleaner article exposed the verdict where Thomas was accused and eventually found to be guilty of knowingly using false evidence in a case.

Thomas’ attorney had informed she would be appealing the ruling.
