#UnitedKingdom, April 7, 2022 – UK manufacturers are racing to find alternatives to one of the country’s most popular cooking oils, Sunflower oil. According to the BBC 80 per cent of the worlds sunflower oil comes from Russia and Ukraine and in the United Kingdom it is used quite heavily. Not only for cooking but also in processed foods like mayonnaise, biscuits and chips.
The UK’s biggest producer of Sunflower oil, Edible Oils says it only has a couple weeks supply left and even worse the shortage might be extensive.
A representative of Edible Oils, in speaking to the BBC said Ukrainian farmers would likely now be planting sunflower seeds for harvest in October, but since that unlikely to happen the Sunflower oil shortage could last up to 18 months.
