#TurksandCaicos, April 7, 2022 – It is not suspected that the sour and toxic smells emanating from the Providenciales landfill was another fire, the dump is just that horrible smelling.

Guess you can’t have record tourism arrivals without having more garbage; and now the funky fragrance is polluting the air with an unbearable stench.

The north-western community of Millennium Heights complained about the odor on Sunday night; some saying it was choking them.  On Monday, the only thing that changed was the trajectory of the foul smell.

Our newsroom reached out to Kyle Knowles, MP for Wheeland, whose reputation is riding on solutions to solid waste management said, “I’m scheduled to have a meeting tomorrow with the Solid Waste Task Force.”

That meeting was on Tuesday.

The MP who is also the PNP Government Administration’s lead on the solid waste management in tandem with the Caribbean Development Bank informed that a site walk through last week led to areas of concern being identified.

The meeting which was scheduled for Tuesday April 5, was expected to bring better information including an update on the CDB works.

The MP said he is in constant dialogue with the Ministry of Health, he adds he is committed to remedying this major issue.

Residents have heard these emphatic statements before though and comments from the homeowners demand effective action.
