#TheTurksandCaicos, March 31, 2022 – The canopy promised for the Providenciales International Airport will (obviously) not be constructed in time for the winter tourist season; it is a disappointing turn of events.

The Provo airport has been plagued with passenger congestion for some time now and the Turks and Caicos Airports Authority cites infrastructural issues as one of the main causes for the embarrassing situation.

In a statement the Airports Authority explained the hold up on the construction, which was announced in 2021.

“The Canopy construction which is intended to provide shelter to passengers as they embark and disembark planes is unfortunately not ready. There were unfortunate delays to the project from a year ago.”

The new expected completion for the canopy is this summer. Department of Planning has recently approved the plans and the TCIAA anticipates being able to commence construction soon.

Construction was estimated to be 4 to 6 weeks.
