Ministry of Labour & Sandals Job Fair

#TheBahamas, February 4, 2022 – Minister of Labour and Immigration the Hon. Keith Bell announced that the Ministry of Labour in conjunction with Sandals Royal Bahamian will hold a job fair on Saturday, February 12, between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm at the Department of Labour’s Headquarters at City Corporate Center, Rosetta Street.

The job fair comes in light of the management of the British Colonial Hilton formally advising the Government of The Bahamas on Wednesday, January 19, of their intention to close with effect from February 15, 2022.

Minister Bell said, the Ministry of Labour has confirmed that 106 Bahamians are expected to be made redundant on or before February 15.

“I am extremely proud to announce that the Department of Labour is again partnering with the Management of Sandals,” said the Minister, “specifically to ascertain how many of the 106 employees of the Hilton can be hired at either the Royal Bahamian New Providence, the Emerald Bay hotel in Exuma or the Fowl Cay resort in the Exuma Cays.

“The 106 employees of the Hilton are specially invited to attend the job fair and come prepared to be screened, interviewed and hired by Sandals Royal Bahamian properties.

“It is anticipated that Sandals will require additional staffing to complement the over 800 Bahamians presently employed at the properties.

“This new initiative by the Ministry of Labour to partner with the corporate community in general and with Sandals in particular is an indication of the Davis Administration’s commitment to reduce the unemployment rate in The Bahamas while at the same time demonstrating that the Private Public Partnership (PPP) is an excellent means of growing the Bahamian economy, and improving the quality of life and standard of living for the people of The Bahamas.

“I wish to express my gratitude and appreciation to the owners and management of Sandals for this bold initiative and the government looks forward to similar PPP in the very near future.”
