DECR fines Watersports Operator for illegal possession of Fish & Investigation Launched into Leeward beach Obstruction

#TurksandCaicos, February 25, 2022 – On Monday the 14th a watersports tour operator and associated staff members were found to be in possession of marine product removed from the Princess Alexandra National Park.

The Department of Environment & Coastal Resources (DECR) fined the culprits in accordance with the National Parks Ordinance 11 of 1975 as amended.

On Friday the 18th 2022 the DECR, in collaboration with the Physical Planning Department, removed an unauthorized obstruction from Pelican Beach Access in Leeward, Providenciales.  Further investigations into the persons responsible for this illegal obstruction are on-going.

The DECR would like to remind the public that in accordance with Regulation 3(1) the following activities are illegal within a national park:

(a) the taking of any animal or plant by any method on land or at sea, except to the extent permitted in any fishing zone.

Failure to comply with this regulation is considered the commitment of an offence under the National Parks Ordinance and may be liable, on summary of conviction, to a fine of $5,000.00 or a term of imprisonment of 6 months, or both.
