TCI Hospitals COVID-19 Pandemic Situation Report – Up to January 20, 2022

#TurksandCaicos, January 28, 2022 – Emergency Departments at the Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital continue to see an increased number of patients presenting with viral illness:

  • CTMC – Averaging 5 per day
  • CHMC – Averaging 10 – 12 per day
  • About 50% of patients are testing positive on antigen testing.

The majority of persons are being discharged to home for isolation and not requiring admission to hospital but we are noticing increased hospitalization trend.

Current admissions as of midnight 20th January 2022

  • Screening is done on admission to the wards with antigen and PCR.

Total – 7 confirmed and 0 suspected

Cockburn Town Medical Centre:

  • 1 confirmed
  • 0 suspected

Cheshire Hall Medical Centre:

  • 6 confirmed
  • 0 suspected

Confirmed

  • 3 vaccinated (no booster)
  • 3 unvaccinated
  • 1 not applicable (2yr old)

 

Clinical status:

  • Symptomatic – 4

o             Critical – 2

o             Non-severe – 2

  • Asymptomatic – 3

Critical COVID-19 transfers pending or ongoing on 20th January 2022:

  • Three patients at CHMC with critical disease:
    • One patient is antigen positive and unvaccinated recently admitted – transfer arrangements ongoing/chronic medical condition
    • One patient has left – vaccinated no booster/chronic medical condition – patient was later transferred 20.1.2020
    • One patient – unvaccinated/chronic medical condition awaiting air ambulance – patient was later transferred 20.1.2022

TAP Patients overseas receiving care for critical COVID-19 – 5 transferred

  • 3 (vaccinated/no booster) and 2 unvaccinated
  • Transfer of tourist with critical COVID-19 – 1 (vaccinated/no booster)
  • Death of one patient via TAP – elderly chronic medical conditions vaccinate x2 no booster
