#TurksandCaicos, December 7, 2021 – Minister of Health and Human Services, Jamell Robinson, urges the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands to recommit to ending inequalities by fighting the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS.

In his message to the nation on December 1, which was celebrated as World Aids Day, he spoke against the stigma people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS undergo.

“Stigma is an unacceptable stain in our society, and we intend to wipe it out. Stigma is not just profoundly wrong; it oftentimes prevents those affected from accessing treatment and much needed support,” he said.  Robinson added that World Aids Day is not only about raising awareness but about uncovering the truth about HIV/AIDS.

As he reinforced the significance of the day, he acknowledged the work of TCI’s healthcare workers, the National Aids Foundation, volunteers, and related organisations.

“On this day throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands, we recognize the energy, passion, commitment, and perseverance of all those working towards our goal as a country,” he said.

He specially commended the Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy Unit, Mrs. Adora Robinson and her team, for their outstanding work in addressing HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

Robinson assured the public that his ministry is committed to increasing its efforts to prevent and control HIV/AIDS and reduce stigma and discrimination.
