#TurksandCaicos, July 22, 2021 – The newly formed and soon to be formally introduced Haitian Heritage Association TCI is speaking out on the shocking slaying of Jovenel Moise, Haiti’s president ahead of his state funeral.

“This is a crapulous crime that should never happen to a president or any human being. We believe that there may have been political differences. However, there is no reason whatsoever to justify this crime.”

The group denounces the killing and asks for the global community to keep heart about Haiti.

“The HHA-TCI (Haitian Heritage Association-TCI) which comprises Turks Islanders of Haitian descent, is mourning alongside the Haitian people in the Turks and Caicos Islands and everywhere in the world. We convey our sympathy to the family of the deceased, especially the first lady, Martine Moise. We wish her a speedy recovery.”

Additionally, there was a cry for help.

“While we recognize that this evil action has no place in our modern society, we recall that precedent unfortunate incidents of this nature have taken place in several countries in the world. However, their citizen’s dignity and integrity has never been undermined. Likewise, may we ask that the dignity and integrity of the Haitian people be respected everywhere in the world. Let not the innocents pay for the guilty.”

Since this statement was published, the interim Haitian prime minister Claude Joseph has announced he will step down to allow Dr. Ariel Henry to take up the post assigned to him one day before Moise was gunned down in his Port au Prince Home.

Joseph will return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The new Haitian heritage group also wants the Turks and Caicos Island Government to initiate a program which aims to regularize Haitians who have entered the TCI legally and who have maintained clean police records throughout.

The organization is also calling on the Haitian consulate to support TCIG in efforts to secure our borders from a possible exodus of Illegal migrants to these shores.
