Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (Thursday, April 15, 2021) – FortisTCI held an introductory meeting on Thursday, April 8, with Honorable Otis Morris, Minister responsible for public utilities. Honorable Morris was joined by members of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Public Utilities and Transportation at the company’s headquarters in Providenciales and toured the company’s largest electricity generation site before meeting with senior executives. This visit serves as a part of FortisTCI’s stakeholder engagement program that encourages ongoing dialog and regular updates for critical stakeholders such as the Minister and Energy and Utilities Commissioners Office.

It included a standard safety briefing, an extensive walk-through of the generation plant, a look at modernized assets and systems such as the newest Wärtsilä engine and control room, and an overview of the mechanical workshop. Following the tour, the Minister and his team met with FortisTCI executives to discuss ongoing capital investments, regulatory matters, sustainability projects, and resiliency of the islands’ electricity systems. A central part of the discussion focused on improving regulations, increasing the uptake of solar, and business continuity.

FortisTCI President and CEO Ruth Forbes said, “Partnerships and maintaining a strong working relationship with the Turks and Caicos Islands government, is critical to achieving the ultimate goal of transforming energy in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Electricity is at the foundation of a strong economy, and we are focused on helping to strengthen the Turks and Caicos product while meeting customer needs.
