#Providenciales, September 23, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Opposition leader believes FortisTCI should decrease expenses like its high salaries in favour of keeping electricity bills lower for the consumer; Washington Misick made strongly intimated as much during a news conference last Wednesday at the Progressive National Party Headquarters.

Misick was speaking about lowering the cost of living in the country when he slipped in comments about the FortisTCI rate application for an increase in power bills.

“With due respect to my own people, who are doing well.  I believe Fortis is the highest paid company in this country, right and I am not saying that they shouldn’t pay people well but we also have to remember at the end of the day that it is a regulative monopoly and we are paying for this at the end of the day.”

The former finance and investment minister made a comparison that FortisTCI is “driving a Mercedes and everybody else is driving a Japanese 241, so I don’t think there is sufficient policing…”

PNP Party Leader, Misick labelled in price increase for FortisTCI as a “moral disaster”.

Earlier comments from Washington Misick centered around the fact that the former PNP Administration passed a Consumer Protection Ordinance which has yet to be activated and his view that there must be a way to balance merchant profitability and more affordable living for residents of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
