Cold front dominates to close off the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season

#Providenciales, November 29, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – I have been told that people in places like Freeport, Grand Bahama in The Bahamas are bundled up real tight at night due to the frigid temperatures there over the past few days.

The cool down is no longer lingering in the islands in the northern Bahamas, nowadays, the southern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands are delighting in the dip in temperatures by as much as 20°.

From The Bahamas Department of Meteorology it was said that:  ‘A WEAK COLD FRONT CONTINUES TO EXTEND JUST SOUTH OF THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS WHILE HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATES THE AREA IN WAKE OF THE FRONT.’

In Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands there are overcast skies in the northwestern part of the island.  Winds are brisk and The Bahamas has issued a rip current warning for east coast beaches in both archipelagos.

The National Hurricane Center, which is based in South Florida, shows an all clear for Tropical cyclone development in the Atlantic Basin on its information website.  Chatter from the NHC can, however, be found on its weather activity board, there is this information:

“A cold front passes through 32N50W in the Atlantic Ocean, to 25N60W, and to 21N70W, and then southwestward beyond the Windward Passage, into the Caribbean Sea. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rain showers are from 27N northward between 44W and 54W. Other rain showers are possible to the northwest of the line that passes through 32N23W to 23N40W, and to 70W along the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. The current cold front will move slowly SE, and stall from 21N65W to the Windward Passage on Friday evening. Surface high pressure that is behind the front, will slide ENE into the W Atlantic Ocean by early Friday, and then move slowly E along 30N through the weekend. This will induce fresh E trade winds S of 23N, and increase S to SW flow over the waters that are to the N of 27N ahead of next cold front. Long period N to NW swell will dominate the forecast waters this afternoon through the weekend.”

Islanders are relived and best of all, it is reported that no tropical cyclone development is expected through tomorrow when the hurricane season is officially closed.
