#Trinidad&Tobago, July 30, 2018 – African heritage is colorfully on display in Trinidad and Tobago every year this time, as the country is setting up to culminate festivities to commemorate Emancipation Day. The Emancipation Village is officially opened now at the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village, which is the host venue for a series of events designed to celebrate liberation from chattel slavery. Youth Activities started the week, a Pan African concert also accents the lead up to the official day and official holiday marking Emancipation. Organizers explained: The finale of the celebrations on August 1 will begin with the Drum Call at 4 am on Duke Street, Port of Spain. The street procession will assemble in front of the Treasury building, Independence Square, where the Emancipation Proclamation was read –historically – 180 years ago.
