#Bahamas, April 11, 2018 – Nassau – The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture congratulates our outstanding athletes who competed in the Carifta Championships.  We are extremely proud of your efforts as you competed in your respective sporting disciplines.

The Bahamas Water-polo teams led the charge by sweeping their competition, winning the U-19, U-17 and U-14 divisions and the championship.  This outstanding performance was followed by the simultaneous competitions of both swimming and track & field.

The Carifta track and field team’s valiant effort enabled them to maintain a 2nd place finish at the 47th Carifta Championships and in so doing improve significantly on the medal count from previous years. The final medal count of 35 represented the team 3rd best performance over the past 27 years.

The Carifta swimming team once again demonstrated to the region their continued dominance in the pool as they captured their 2nd consecutive Carifta championship title with 789 points, almost 200 points more than their nearest competitor at the 33rd Carifta Swimming Championships.

We acknowledge and commend the sacrifice and hard work of the coaches and athletes, supported by their families, which is bearing fruit.  Therefore on behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture and a proud nation we again say congratulations to all our Carifta teams for a job well done!
