Turks and Caicos Lobster Season Closing

#TurksandCaicos, March 16, 2018 – Providenciales – Lobster season is closing for the Turks and Caicos Islands in a matter of weeks and that means there will be some last calls for lobster haul events to say farewell to the tasty crustacean until August.  Lobster season closures were instituted to give the lobsters a time to spawn and in the Turks and Caicos, there had been three years of an extended spawning season which the DECR or Department of Environment and Coastal Resources had announced as worth the while as it saw a boost in lobster stocks.

This year, fisheries bosses will be watching to see how the lobster will do post hurricanes Irma and Maria.  In 2008, Hurricane Ike’s category four pounding of the Turks and Caicos islands negatively affected fisheries intakes.  Turks and Caicos Lobster Season closes on March 31st.
