Steering Committee to Make Recommendations For Grand Bahama Tech Hub

#Bahamas, December 17, 2017 – Grand Bahama – Minister of State for Grand Bahama, Senator Kwasi Thompson’s passion for ensuring that Grand Bahama becomes the Tech Hub of The Bahamas was evident as he addressed members of the official Tech Hub Steering Committee, which began a two days of deliberations at the Grand Lucayan resort, Thursday, December 14, 2017.

After giving his prepared remarks, Minister Thompson said: “As you make your recommendations, I want you to be specific, I do not want this to be a report that goes on a shelf…. I want this to be a real working plan and plan of action which the Government can take, approve and implement.”

Minister Thompson told the star-studded Committee of Tech and computer experts that they get to do something that has never before been done in The Bahamas.  The Tech Hub Steering Committee comprises a wide range of professionals from the technology world as well as business, marketing, and even accounting.   Not all are from Grand Bahama; others are from Silicon Valley, Florida, other parts of the United States and from Nassau.

The Committee’s main objective is to brainstorm, come up with recommendations on what it will take to turn Grand Bahama into a Tech Hub, and then present those findings to the Government.   Minister Thompson said establishing Grand Bahama as a Tech Hub is something that is necessary for Grand Bahama, specifically, and The Bahamas, as a whole.

Insert: LEADING THE CHARGE – The recent Technology Summit, which was held in Grand Bahama, was a success, where top named individuals, proficient in the field of modern technology, brought their expertise to Grand Bahama.   The Summit was a part of the Ministry of Grand Bahama’s push to turn Grand Bahama into a Tech Hub.  Leading the charge is Minister of State for Grand Bahama, Senator Kwasi Thompson (right), Permanent Secretary in the Office of The Prime Minister Harcourt Brown (center) and Kristie Powell of Google (left).
