#Bahamas, December 14, 2017 – Grand Bahama – Grand Bahama’s New Year’s Junkanoo Parade will be held in dedication of Ken Motorboat Ferguson, a 40 year veteran of the cultural celebration who this past September died due to health complications.   Minister of Sports and Culture, Michael Pintard made the announcement Tuesday in Freeport.

Minister Pintard said, “Indeed it is an honor for the both Cultural and Junkanoo communities to have this opportunity to name the 2018 New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade in honor of Kenneth ‘Motorboat’ Ferguson, who truly was a giant of a man; a legend whose passion and Bahamian pride for culture has etched a legacy for all Junkanoo enthusiasts he took under his wing.”

Junkanoo leaders and the Grand Bahama Junkanoo committee unanimously agreed that to name the parade in Motorboat’s honour is only fitting, the former leader of the Classic Dancers – a premier group in Grand Bahama and believe the tribute to Ferguson should continue in a cultural scholarship.

New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade is set for Freeport on Monday January 1, 2018 at Churchill Square Downtown.   First out of the gate will be Kingdom Culture followed by Showtime, Superstar Rockers, Bushwhackers, Platinum Knights, Sting Grand Bahama, Swingers, Grand Bahama AIDS Awareness and the New Life Classic Dancers, which has this year entered as a “show group” to honor their fallen leader the late Kenneth ‘Motorboat’ Ferguson at the upcoming parade.
