#TurksandCaicos, September 13, 2017 – Providenciales –  A set of extingency orders will authorise the Customs Department to ease taxation on certain materials as the Turks and Caicos rebuilds following Hurricane Irma.

The Premier and Finance Minister, Sharlene Robinson and Governor, Dr John Freeman were busy this morning signing and authorising for select building materials to come into the country duty free.  These items will not be for sale, and the orders are set up to ease the reconstruction burden.

There is no official count yet on how many structures, including homes, were damaged but no island went untouched by catastrophic Hurricane Irma who touched down on September 7.   Residents have been anticipating this move and are today advised to create their needs list.

Premier Robinson explained in a media debriefing at the Office of the Premier Wednesday morning that the needs list must be approved by the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies, DDME.   It was said by the Premier that the exempted goods will be published tomorrow.

The Governor and UK were praised by the Premier for their support and committment to the TCI; Hon Robinson said she and her team are very pleased with the help extended.
