Bahamas, June 30th 2017: DPM and Finance Minister Peter Turnquest says his government has already commenced works on developing a Small Business Centre at the University of The Bahamas.
The minister speaking at a Billionaire Roundtable’s ‘Jumpstart Our Business Start-Ups’ at the Hyatt Baha Mar Convention Centre, says allocations in this year’s fiscal package have been made for a Small Business Centre. The centre will be designed to aid in capacity building for small and medium sized business entrepreneurs that may need more technical assistance on matters such as getting a business license, writing a business plan, managing and developing employees or those wanting to export.
He adds the project is as a result of collaborations with the Finance Ministry and the US Small Business Development Centres, and the University of The Bahamas which will also be hosted at the University’s campus, while he adds that all of the services will be free to the public, as a public service.”
Meanwhile, he told the businessmen that the country has managed extremely well having continued foreign direct investment (FDI), which has helped strengthen the economy. He says FDI presents itself to countries viewed as “safe bets” and flows to where there are strong institutions and good governance.
The Minister says his government intends to encourage a culture of savings through transparent, and accountable, corruption free practices in national investments.
