Jamaica, May 1, 2017 – Kingston – The Jamaican men and women dominated the track events at the Penn Relays which were held from April 27-29 at Franklin Field, on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-led women’s 4x100m team won in a season’s best 42.25 seconds — faster than the winning time in the Bahamas. The women’s 4x400m team ran 3 minutes 28.32 seconds, while the USA ran 3:29.30 minutes. The men’s team of Jermaine Gayle, Martin Manley, Leford Green and Dunkley clocked a creditable 3:03.14 minutes to win the 4x400m for the first time since 2005.
The Jamaican women were second in the sprint medley relays (SMR) as the team of Audra Segree, Natasha Morrison, Anastasia Le-Roy and Verone Chambers clocked 1:36.67 behind the USA (1:35.59). The Men’s SMR placed fourth with Mario Forsythe, Jamari Rose, Allodin Fothergill and Jo-Wayne Hibbert running 3:19.97 minutes behind two American teams and Nigeria.
Other record breaking performances included Calabar High School’s team of sophomores, smashing the Penn Relays High School Boys’ 4x100M record in 39.00 and then later on, winning the 4x400M. Hydel High’s girls also get a new 4×4 record with 3:33.99 and St. Elizabeth Tech won the boys 4×800 championship in 7:33.27.
