Environmental Health warns of mosquito breeding sites after heavy rains

Turks and Caicos, May 9, 2017 – Providenciales –  Due to the heavy rain fall in Providenciales as well as other islands, Environmental Health Director (EHD), Kenrick Neely is advising all residents on the Turks and Caicos islands to take all necessary precautions in eliminating mosquito breathing sites on their properties.

The Turks and Caicos Islands have been experiencing continual rainfall over the past weekend and into this week. The director says residents should ensure that all containers used to store water be properly disposed.  “I would like to take this opportunity to advise the residents of the Turks and Caicos islands to take necessary precautions in eliminating all mosquito breeding sites on your property.  You can do this by ensuring that all containers that can hold water are properly disposed of, if you have water on your premises, you can use cooking oil, or any other type of oil  to treat those breeding areas in your yard. Contact the Environmental Health Department to assist you if need be on the telephone number 338-2142 or 338-2144, or 338-2143.  In North and Middle Caicos, you can contact the department at 946- 7235.”

Also, he is advising persons that any kind oil can be used to treat breathing areas in yards. All boat owners are also strongly advised to turn down their boats and take the plugs out of boats to allow water to drain. Water buckets and drums used to store water should also be properly sealed.
