Turks and Caicos, March 24, 2017 – Providenciales – With assets frozen by the court, spending by former premier Michael Misick is limited and now, he says that is landing him into problems as he cannot pay his day to day bills.  Misick said the owners of Alexandra Resort turned off his water and power because of his inability to be able to pay the strata fees associated with his apartment and it sent him to the court to request some relief.

Misick said he wanted to be allowed to access some of his own money to better take care of himself and his children but was told no by the Chief Justice.   Misick reminds that he is innocent until proven guilty despite his case with the Special Investigation and Prosecution Team alleging corruption while serving as Premier of the country.

Michael Misick is also outraged that it took the court five weeks to come back with that decision to deny him access to his government pension money, which he writes in a media release issued yesterday, is sorely needed for both him and his children to carry on living.  He calls the position difficult.   “The ruling in my view brings into question the independence of the criminal justice system in this jurisdiction, it seems that when it comes to matters involving SIPT, justice has certain colour.”  He continued with, “Depriving me of my basic human rights and unnecessarily putting extra pressure on me during my trial cannot be seen to be fair.”

Michael Misick says he will challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.
