Appeal filed against Boundaries Commission Report ruling

Bahamas, March 8, 2017 – Nassau – An appeal is filed now against the ruling by Judge Ian Winder last month that the application against the Boundaries Commission Report brought by two Members of Parliament, was baseless.  Andre Rollins of Ft Charlotte and Richard Lightbourn of Montagu said they would appeal and yesterday they did just that and will try again for the judge to see that the Boundaries Commission Report was unconstitutionally tabled in the House of Assembly.

The duo believes there was Gerrymandering, or tampering with boundaries in a way that favours one political party, namely the PLP and that the Prime Minister brought the Report too late; outside of the five year time frame The Bahamas Constitution stipulates.

Attorney for the two, Michael Scott filed in the Court of Appeal and in essence told media that Judge Winder lost his way; got sidetracked about the true intent of the application.  Scott says it was not to obtain a full judicial review but to rule that their argument at least made enough sense and had enough substance to apply for a full judicial review.
